Ben E King, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller wrote "Stand by Me" in 1961. King's record went to number one on the R&B charts and was a Top Ten hit on the U.S. charts twice, in its original release in 1961, it peaked at #4. Its 1986 re-release concurred with its use as the theme song for the movie Stand by Me with River Phoenix, it peaked at #9.
